back on the road

completed the Race for the Cure 5k today in Scranton Pa. I, of course, alternated between walking and running and took just over 43 minutes to finish. I'm thinking I'm really glad the Baltimore half-marathon is billed as welcoming walkers. I might need the better part of their established 5 1/2 time limit for the half. ::shaking head:: This being out of shape just stinks.

bike bonding

biked 4 miles today on a dirt road and found myself much more comfortable with the bike. the seemingly, made-for-bikes, flat roads near the beach are a teeny tad different of an experience than riding rolling hills of my home area on roads that quite often don't have much of a shoulder. And dirt roads are full of potential problems not found on nicely paved roads. Quickly remembering that a fast downhill aids in the following climb, I added some speed downhill and actually surpassed all of 25 mph at one point. I admit that had me a bit nervous given my bare legs and the, albeit sparsely, gravel strewn road covering. However, I managed to avoid any mishap and built up quite a bit of lactic acid trying to get up the hills. I'm thinking my legs will be a bit sore tomorrow.

triathlete

my last day of beach vacation, I managed to get myself out of bed and onto the beach in time to witness the sun surfacing from the Atlantic Ocean and proceeded to run/walk on the beach for I'll guess a total of a mile or so. I then went back to my hotel and got my bike out of my car and rode on the boardwalk then to the state park covering around 8 miles all together. When I returned to the hotel I then went for a swim (a couple hundred meters at most :) . OK so I won't be entering any triathlons any time soon, but I had fun.

crossing the line

as part of a weekend trip to Boston, I had the opportunity to cross the Boston Marathon finish line.....a few times. The first time was part of a vehicle tour of the city. After the tour was done, I mentioned to my friend who lives in Boston that I would have liked to have taken a picture of the finish line. She said it was just a block or so away and off we went on foot. So while trying to get a decent shot of the finish (void of obnoxious sun glare), I crossed the finish a couple more times.

Someday I hope to be able to cross that line after actually running the proceeding 26.2 miles.
